George Kelso, NABF Tournament Director and on Board of Directors

As we have turned the calendar to the new year, we are saddened to learn of the passing of George R. Kelso, who passed away on January 8, 2017, at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center. He was 85 years old.

George was a founding member of Class B baseball in the Mahoning Valley, managing and coaching teams in the league throughout the 1960s and 1970s. He was also a longtime supporter and contributor to the National Amateur Baseball Federation throughout the 1980s and 1990s, having both served on the Board of Directors as well as being a Tournament Director for local NABF Regional and World Series tournaments in Youngstown, Ohio. He was a lifelong exhibitor at the Canfield Fair, primarily with the ponies; he also was a ringmaster at the Pony Palace for many years.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, George served during the Korean conflict, where he received a Purple Heart.

He loved camping and baseball and was an avid Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers fan.
